What are we tracking?
The Brandon Police Services (BPS) records all impaired driving offences either by alcohol or drug.
How are we measuring this?
In 2020, the total number of charges BPS laid pertaining to impaired driving was 66. BPS partners with Manitoba Public Insurance and other agencies to initiate impaired driving check stops throughout the year. Manitoba continues to have the toughest laws against impaired driving and with the amended Immediate Roadside Prohibition, under the Highway Traffic Act, new tougher sanctions take effect right at the roadside based on the results of the approved screening device. What progress are we making?
The offences are recorded on the Police Report Occurrence System and compiled into a monthly report and shared with BPS to formulate strategic initiatives. The numbers recorded are based on actual charges laid.
Please note that the Brandon Police Service Scorecard totals may be subject to change to more accurately reflect our Records Management System. Enquiries regarding these changes can be directed to the Brandon Police Service Media Relations Officer
