What are we tracking?
The Streets and Roads department tracks the number of potholes that are filled throughout the City of Brandon in a year.
How are we measuring this?
Potholes require, on average, 40 pounds of asphalt to fill. Public works calculates the number of potholes we fill by the monthly total of asphalt purchased, in pounds, divided by 40 lbs. per pothole.
What progress are we making?
The Public Works Department works closely with the Engineering Department in identifying streets with high pothole numbers. The pothole data, coupled with the street condition assessment that the Engineering Department conducts, identifies streets that are in the most need of upgrade. With the City’s aggressive milling and overlay program, it is our hope that the number of potholes needed to be fill will be reduced.
