What are we tracking?

Recycling material delivered to the Material Recovery Facility (MRF). This material is delivered from a combination of residential and commercial sources. The majority of residential material is brought by the City of Brandon collection vehicles with the remaining material being dropped off at the depots located throughout the city. The commercial material is brought by the 4 large commercial haulers and the smaller businesses that self haul their recyclable material.

How are we measuring this?

As vehicles enter the landfill site they are weighed on the inbound scale and then after they unload they are weighed on the outbound scales. The weights from each load are maintained using the PC Scale program.

What progress are we making?

The residents of Brandon continue to make recycling a priority by diverting over 600 Tonnes of recyclable materials each month. By doing so we are extending the life of our landfill, however there is always room for improvement. According to a 2019 waste composition study the City of Brandon is capturing 69% of the MMSM eligible materials meaning 31% of eligible materials are likely being landfilled. This works out to approximately 3,300 Tonnes of eligible material from a potential of 4,800 tonnes is being diverted from the landfill.
